Tagbanwa believers in the Philippines, whose lives have been controlled by their fear of the spirits, are now acknowledging their deliverance from fear and are trusting God to help them in their daily lives.

The Tagbanwas' fear of displeasing the spirits often had them sacrificing animals to appease the spirits.

"They don't do the sacrifices any more, nor are they afraid of the 'people of the dark,'" wrote missionaries Ray and Chris Pollock.

As a recent teaching session was coming to an end, Ray looked around for someone to close in prayer.

Cardin, a former witch doctor, volunteered. "Thank you so much God for giving us your son Jesus," he prayed. "He is the One who has freed us. He is the One we are trusting in."

Cardin also thanked God for sending the missionaries and asked God to strengthen their bodies so they can keep teaching.

"We sometimes think of the hard years that we, as a family, have been through," the Pollocks wrote, "and the many discouragements along the way. But we know now that it has been wonderfully worth it."

Ray is currently reviewing some of the Old Testament stories with the believers, emphasizing that Christ is the promised Deliverer.

Please pray that the believers will grow in their relationship with Christ and boldly live for Him.

"The ladies are obviously feeling a oneness and we see them hanging out together and encouraging each other," the Pollocks wrote. "The men are hanging back a bit, as culturally they let the ladies take the lead in many things, and many of the new believers are just shy guys. We would appreciate your prayers for the men."
