Last Sunday was a triumphant moment for a small church and for New Tribes Mission in Senegal. The church held a commissioning service for Christoph and Anne Haerter, missionaries with New Tribes Mission.

When Christoph and Anne arrived in Senegal in 2006, the church became their host family, helping them to learn the culture and language. The Haerters developed some great relationships with church members. Now the small church of mainly Jola people in Dakar is sending the Haerters as their missionaries to help another church in the southern region of Senegal. This is the first time that the church has sent out one of their own families for missionary service and the first time that New Tribes missionaries were sent out by a Senegalese church.

The service was conducted in true Senegalese style with lots of singing and dancing and a word from the Haerters and the church leaders. Afterward there was a meal of "Poulet Yassa" a traditional Senegalese dish of lemon chicken and rice. The celebration lasted well into the afternoon and everyone was rejoicing over the partnership of the church and New Tribes Mission.

Christoph and Anne will spend the next 18 months training the leaders of this church and preparing them to reach other Jolas. Pray for the Haerters as they move to the southern part of Senegal and begin their new ministry. Pray also for the church in Dakar as they encourage and support their missionaries.
