Matu was frustrated. For years he had been a leader in the Bagwido tribe and a worker of magic. He was the one who could tell the rain to come or stay away.
He had power.
But when missionaries Mark and Holly Woodard came, he learned about Jesus. Even before the missionaries finished the Gospel teaching he understood and believed.
He was a follower of Christ. But it was raining.
The believers were supposed to gather today to worship and learn about God. But the rain pounded all day long. The meeting would have to wait.
Mark came to Matu and asked him to pray for good weather.
Matu thought, "Tomorrow needs to be a good clear day, with hot sun to dry the ground and we can meet together as believers and be taught from God's Word."
Then he started thinking about doing his magic to make the rain stay away.
Suddenly, he stopped and thought about God. He remembered that God had created all things. Surely it was He, and not Matu, who controlled the weather.
In the middle of the night, Matu looked at the sky and saw only black clouds.
He lifted his hands to the heavens and said, "Oh God, my God, our Great Creator Being. You alone are God; You only. You are the One who created all that we see, and You are the One who made the rain and the clouds and the thunder and the lightning.
"Only You, God, can make the rain stay away and give us a clear day tomorrow to hear your thoughts. So, please, God, I am asking You in the name of your son Jesus, to give us a dry day tomorrow. I know that I am nothing on my own that I think I can do it, but it is only You, Oh God."
After praying, Matu went into his house and was soon asleep.
The next day, he couldn't help but smile as the believers gathered under a sunny sky.
He didn't have to control the rain anymore.
He knew the Rainmaker.
Pray for Matu and the other Bagwido believers to choose God over their old beliefs in day-to-day life. Pray that the Bible teaching will continue to change lives.
