Last week five Wusuraambyan Bible teachers in Papua New Guinea were excited as they met with missionary Terry Banman to review Bible lesson material.
Terry gave them some guidance as to how to more effectively present the lessons.
Terry was encouraged to see that the session was well spent. The newest teacher trainee, Winson, did a much better job of teaching the people compared to a previous session.
As Winson taught about Jesus being the Way, the Truth and the Life, he used a lot of illustrations from the Old Testament, drawing parallels between different stories. He taught about the tree of life being the only tree that would give life, and the sacrifice that Abel made being the only type of sacrifice that was acceptable.
He emphasized that there was only one door into the ark that Noah built, and that God shut the door Himself. He pointed out that during the Passover in Egypt the blood on the doorpost was the only way to be saved from death.
He told his listeners that at the Red Sea there was only one way of escape, and when the Israelites were bitten by snakes in the wilderness the only one way to live was by looking at the bronze snake.
Winson taught with passion and his listeners responded enthusiastically. They seemed to understand the lesson well.
"Wherever I go I think about what I've been hearing," said Timothy. "When I walk on the road I think about it. When I get to my garden and even while working, I think about the lessons. The way to salvation is so simple. It's not hard. It's easy. The Helper came to save me and made a road for me. The talk we've been hearing is so sweet."
As the two men walked together, Timothy's excitement was evident to Terry. Timothy was so involved in his conversation with the missionary that instead of taking the usual trail to his house he walked out of his way another ten minutes and took a different way home.
That particular trail is "definitely the place to meet people," Terry wrote. His wife, Rosie, also had an encouraging encounter with some of the village women on the trail.
Linda was really excited about all she's been hearing. Without prompting, the Wusuraambyan woman told Rosie that she believes that Jesus' blood was shed on her behalf for her sinfulness.
At another time while walking on the trail, Linda said, "I was so hungry when I was listening to the talk that I wanted to hear more and more, but now my hunger is being satisfied. I couldn't understand why people were so happy from hearing the lessons when they were taught before at a previous outreach. I wanted to know and now I know that the Helper has come to save me."
Another young mother, Julie, said, "I really like going to the teaching and hearing the great talk." Even in the rain she hikes for 30 minutes, carrying her two small children down the muddy, slippery trail to attend the teaching, and she always listens attentively.
Please pray that God's Word will continue to fall on ears ready to receive His Truth.
