DINANGATS CONTEMPLATE WHAT JESUS DID

The Dinangat people of Papua New Guinea are now hearing about the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. Missionaries, with the help of some Dinangats, have been illustrating the Bible lessons using dramatic presentations.

Yesterday, missionary Gary Smith portrayed Christ being tried before the high priest. As Gary was being beaten one elderly woman said, "Oh my child, my child. I feel bad for you."

After the lesson, no one asked any questions. Everyone sat silently as they contemplated what Jesus endured to save them.

Gary said the people started connecting the dots during a previous lesson about the Last Supper and the new covenant. When the people heard Jesus' words about his approaching death, emotions began to show.

Felix said, "We are all just overwhelmed to think that we are such bigheads [prideful or stubborn people] and yet Jesus said he would die for us."

"OK, now we are really convicted," said Dok.

Jeretnuwo, who left his home village to live in another area for a while, said, "While I was in the other village I was hearing about what was going on over here -- that people were learning how to read and write and that some white men would be teaching God's Word. So I left the other village and moved here with my family. I wanted to see what this was all about. I wondered if I would be able to read and write and perhaps understand God's Word. Now I am so glad that I came here."

Please pray for these people as they hear the whole Gospel. Pray that God will give them complete understanding of what Christ did for them, and that they will place their faith in Him.
