IT'S CONTAGIOUS

First meeting of Tobo believers
First meeting of Tobo believers

by David Bell

Thursday morning was the first meeting of the Tobo believers in Papua New Guinea. For three hours, 13 men, with their wives and children, along with a handful of young adults and teenagers, listened to testimonies, read scripture together, and heard missionary Jason Knapp encourage them.

One of the new believers, Paul, stood and said, "No one can tell me anymore that I am a sinner and going to hell. Jesus paid the price for all my sins. They are washed away and I am pure in God's sight. Jesus did that for me. How can anyone say I can lose that?"

"Looking around at the men we can see how God hand-picked each one of them," wrote Jason. "They are all 'big men' from different villages and in the community spotlight constantly. And they are all very excited to go tell their friends and family so that others can join us.

"The excitement is contagious," wrote Jason's co-worker, Chad Mankins. "People are talking a mile a minute about how happy they are now because of Jesus dying on the cross for them."

"Keep praying for these new believers," Jason wrote. "There is great opposition out there. Pray that their excitement doesn't waver and their boldness continues.

"It's humbling watching these new believers and all their excitement over what Jesus has done. Where did all our excitement go?"
