DILIGENTLY MAKING CHRIST KNOWN
November 22, 2004
Nine Piapocos placed their faith in Christ after Bible teachers persevered to teach.
Two years ago, tribal leaders of a small Piapoco village invited Piapoco Bible teachers living in the area to teach them the Bible.
The teachers made preparations for the two hour trip on bicycle. But when two Piapoco men were killed by guerrillas, those in the small village scattered and the trip was postponed.
Undaunted, the Piapoco team continued to prepare for the time when the village would be ready. They were trained to teach God's Word to their own people and they were eager for this village to have a chance to hear what God had to say to them.
Finally, in early September, the team of six Piapoco Bible teachers headed to the village for a two-month evangelistic outreach. This was a long time for them to leave their own families, their work and gardens, but they committed to it.
The teachers traded off Bible lessons, teaching two lessons each morning, Monday through Saturday to a group of about 15 Piapoco adults and their children. The villagers provided them with mañoco and casave bread, and some of the teachers went hunting or fishing in the afternoons.
Once the last lesson was taught, nine Piapocos -- six men and three women -- clearly expressed faith in Christ. And five of the men now want to be trained as teachers.
Praise the Lord for these new believers. Pray that the others who heard the teaching will also put their faith in Christ.
