SUICIDE SHAKES MENGEN VILLAGE

Regina`s death has really shaken the Mengen village.

Regina, a young Mengen woman in Papua New Guinea, apparently committed suicide last week.

She had recently married a young Mengen man named Benny and started the literacy class. Regina's actions gave evidence that she was looking forward to the class and life in general. But last week she was found dead apparently by her own hand.

The entire village, including the missionary team ministering among the Mengens, is horrified by her death.

"Please be in prayer for the Mengen believers at this time," wrote missionary Becky Preheim, "that they would somehow be able to comfort the grieving family members."

As far as anyone knows, Regina had never trusted Christ as her Savior and this adds to the believers' grief. Only the Laureti and Flanagan families were in the village at the time of her death. Rebecca and her co-worker Keri Pacheco are attending a workshop on Bible translation. Dave and Judy Wright are making flight arrangements to return to the tribe as quickly as possible to help the Lauretis and Flanagans comfort the villagers.

Please pray for the Mengen believers who are dealing with this tragedy. Pray also that the missionaries will find words of comfort to help Regina's family.

"Pray for wisdom, strength and grace to minister to a whole village of hurting people," wrote Becky.
