Twenty-five church leaders and their wives from the Emberá, Kuna and Buglere tribes in Panama recently attended an inter-tribal conference.
"We were blessed by the reports, sharing from the Word, and music of the three tribal groups," wrote missionaries Don and Pat Barger.
When Anelio, a Kuna missionary, shared concerning the drowning of his young child, some of the group shed tears with him. Edelfonso, pastor of the Kuna church, and his wife, Eneida, attended the conference in spite of the recent death of their 2-month-old baby girl.
"It was special for us to be able to hug these dear folks and express our sorrow to them in person," wrote Pat. "Both of these couples are very dedicated servants of God."
Pino, a former leader in the Embará church, was the oldest men attending the conference. He had a stroke a few years ago and is not as strong as he once was.
While at the conference he decided to try to spear some fish in the nearby river. The rushing current swept him under and he was unable to get to shore. Fortunately, his daughter saw him go under and went to his rescue. He told the group that he had said, "Here I come, Lord."
"Praise the Lord for His saving power," Pat wrote.
Pray for the tribal churches in Panama to continue to stand strong in the Lord and for the church leaders to serve Christ faithfully. Pray for comfort for Anelio and Edelfonso and their families.
