Church Planting

Worldview (13) discusses what worldviews are, how they develop, how they affect behavior, and how worldview assumptions can be analyzed, with particular focus on the North American worldview.

New Testament Church Principles 1 (4) gives a detailed overview of the missionary candidate's future, clarifying what is involved in church planting and how the different components (taught in courses) relate to the whole/complete work.

Practical Ministry Skills (14) challenges the missionary candidates to consider how the principles learned in other classes can be applied to their daily lives, particularly to their outreach and local church ministries.

Field Fair (8) is a time set aside for representatives from each NTM field to present the current needs and give the missionary candidates opportunity to see where they can fit in.

Church Planting Wrap-Up 1 (3) affords the missionary candidate the opportunity to bring together all prior training including concepts and techniques involved in establishing a New Testament church.

Christian Living

Biblical Hermeneutics (16) provides the missionary candidate with a consistent method of biblical interpretation held by NTM so as to aid in "rightly dividing" the Scriptures for effective church planting. (This is only required for missionary candidates who have not previously taken a comparable course.)

Foundational Bible Teaching (FBT) (55) presents biblical themes from creation through Christ’s ascension necessary for a clear understanding of the Gospel and the security of the believer. This course also addresses the rationale for teaching this way, demonstrating its effectiveness as a methodology for evangelism and church planting.

Teamwork (25) addresses the dynamics of a team approach to ministry.

Stewardship

  • Time Management (5) is designed to assist the missionary candidates in the effective use of their time.

  • Money Management (3) presents basic principles of budgeting and tracking income and expenses.

  • NTM Finances (5) presents specific ways in which NTM helps its members administer their funds, and covers members’ tax responsibilities as self-employed clergy.

Partnership Development (16) addresses the motivation and application for developing personal relationships with prayer and financial supporters as well as home churches.

Love and Respect (12) encourages the application of biblical principles pertaining to the marriage relationship.

Chapel (30) meets twice a week. Local pastors, visiting missionaries, faculty and missionary candidates share during these chapel times.

Prayer Emphasis (42) provides a daily time for candidates and staff to pray for the worldwide ministries of NTM.

E-linc: equipping through listening, interacting, nurturing and challenging. (18) provides the advisor and candidate an opportunity to build a relationship and thus offers a platform to aid in equipping and training the candidate in spiritual qualities and ministry capabilities relative to ministry on the field.

Culture and Language Acquisition

CLA Introduction (16) introduces NTM’s program for culture & language acquisition.

Phonetics (79) presents the basic concepts of articulatory phonetics by describing points of articulation, manners of articulation and the human speech apparatus. Besides learning phonetic theory, the missionary candidate will practice hearing, producing and writing various phonetic sounds.

Form & Meaning (7) gives an in-depth explanation of the appropriate relationship between form and meaning particularly as it relates to Bible translation.

Complementary Courses

Learning Styles (6) introduces the missionary candidate to various learning styles, helping them recognize their predominant style of learning.
