Youth Ministry
Lucas is back in the groove of teaching the 11-12th grade Sunday School. Last week we had twelve students with a more even mix of girls/guys. Lucas is starting a series on 1 Corinthians, which he'll hopefully finish before the end of the semester. As students on the brink of entering the world as individuals, they are extremely interested in how to deal with sin in their spiritual walk. This will be a powerful, practical study showing the youth how God has given us power over sin.
For the next three weeks Lucas will be teaching the youth group, grades 7-12, on Wednesday nights. The study is on Mercy. Though teaching large groups is not one of Lucas strengths, he did a fabulous job this week. Both of us continue to volunteer on Wednesday nights helping with small groups and building relationships with the youth. Many of the kids come from disfunctional or poor families. We enjoy being an encouragement to them as well as urging them to seek truth from scripture.
The fact is... ministry is the biggest part of our training here. For both Naomi and I, we are experiencing many opportunities to take the tools that we are getting in training and applying them directly to our ministries. In some cases the ministry is showing us areas where we need to learn more so we can be better communicators when we go to a foreign country, adding language and culture.
