Yanomami church leaders and missionary Mike Hartman traveled downriver together to attend a Bible conference in Brazil. The attendees represented 46 people groups, including 1,400 tribal believers and 500 missionaries. Mike was delighted when one of the Yanomami leaders told him, "I came on this trip for the purpose of hearing God's Word and seeing the believers."
On the way down they picked up another believer at his village. Yanomami church leader and Bible teacher Brais had previously given the man a copy of the translation of the book of Acts. But when they arrived at Manaus, he told Brais he did not have his copy and asked if he could borrow another copy so that he could read God's Word at the conference.
Brais then told Mike that he didn't like it that the believer did not bring his Scriptures. He said that not bringing God's Word and eating it every day for strength was like going on a three-day hike and not bringing any food: You would get weak and wouldn't accomplish what you set out to do.
Abrao, one of the Yanomami leaders, told missionaries at a mission prayer meeting, "I am a strong leader in my community and I need your help in praying for me. I am not strong in myself; my strength comes from the Lord. We want to spread God's Word to other villages but there are a lot of people who are against that, so we really need your prayers."
Pray that the Yanomami believers will continue to value God's Word and will grow stronger in their walk with the Lord. Pray too that they will reach out to other villages with God's love.
