Abeedou ran to Grandmother's hut. "Grandmother," he cried, "the Elders have decided that only the men can come to the meetings to hear God's Truth!" |

"Yes, that is the way it has always been among our people. Women
do not concern themselves with religion," said Grandmother.
"But, Grandmother, you must hear God's Truth. I know that
it is very important. You must hear about the Debt-Payer and
so must I."

"Well then, little one, we shall have a little secret. The meeting will be in our compound. We cannot go to the teaching, but we can sit in my hut and listen. We will be very quiet and we will hear God's Truth. Now, Abeedou, tell me what you have learned about God and about His Debt-Payer." |

So Abeedou told Grandmother all that he had learned as he helped Paulu and Iriki learn the Malinké language. He told her about trying to decide what words to use for righteousness and for salvation. He told her that Paulu has said that God could save him. Abeedou talked long into the night telling his grandmother all that he had heard. Finally, she said, "You must go to sleep, little one. Stay here with me tonight. You are right, we must hear God's Truth." |

The
next night all of the village Elders met in the Chief's compound. Iriki
came with a flashlight and several sheets of paper. He sat down and began
to explain to them about God's Book and how it had been written. He began
teaching to them from the book of Genesis, the first book of the Bible.
He told them he would teach right through the Bible so that they could
understand how God dealt with man.
All the men listened eagerly to the story of how God created the Heavens and the Earth. They heard, for the first time, the story of Adam and Eve. In her hut, Grandmother thought, "So that's how we came to be here." She and Abeedou listened to every word. No one knew that they were there. |

Night after night, they listened to the teachings from the book.
