Last week missionaries Jim and Joy Elliot boarded an airplane to return to their home among the Morop people of Indonesia. As the plane ascended all they could see was a bank of clouds. Climbing to 13,000 feet the pilot still could not get above the clouds.
"As we continued on," wrote Jim, "we could see that the cloud buildup was all the way across the area. Once we reached the central mountains the clouds were so bad that all we could see in front of us was a wall of clouds."
Realizing the potentially dangerous situation the pilot, Syd Johnson, turned around and returned to the point of take off. Jim and Joy were very disappointed by the delay. They were told that the next possible flight day was two weeks away. Imagine their joy when a pilot with another mission called to say he could fit them into a flight the next day.
"We are very glad to be home but are quite exhausted after all the packing and unpacking we've done over the last couple of days," wrote Jim. "Today was spent putting away over 1,000 kilos of supplies that have been sitting in our living room for the last two months. I spent the day helping Joy unpack everything."
Praise God with us that Jim and Joy are safe at home in the village with their Morop friends. Pray for them as they resume their ministry.
