| John teaching TPR (Total Physical Response) |
New Tribes missionaries, for the most part, live and work among people groups who speak a language that no one else in the world speaks. They must be able to go into these often remote areas of the world and learn the people's language and culture by just living among them. Often, part of the missionaries' job is not only to preach the gospel and start a church, but also to reduce the language to writing, create an alphabet for the people, teach them to read and write, and translate the Bible. New Tribes Mission's training helps prepare them to accomplish these difficult tasks. Here are some of the specific topics we are involved in teaching: - The Phonetic Alphabet - used to write down previously unwritten languages.
- How to create an alphabet.
- Exposure to the grammars of many different languages.
- How to learn the language of a people group and how to understand and adjust to their culture.
