What part does literacy have in tribal church planting?

Literacy & printed materials are important ingredients in the expansion of the Gospel's reach…

• Around the world, many excellent Bible translations sit unused because people cannot read!
• Without reading skills, people are unable to have their own personal devotions and their spiritual growth is slowed down.
• Churches are handicapped in their discipleship of others, including their own children.
• Outreaches to other villages are affected. Literacy often opens doors to otherwise closed areas.

So over the next months, Joyce and I will be transitioning into our new ministry as Literacy Coordinators for New Tribes Mission. The Mission is working in over 270 people groups around the world. It is anticipated that 12 new tribes will hear the Gospel for the first time this year! It is our privilege to see that these tribal people have the opportunity to learn to read God’s Word in their own language.

We thank God for the opportunity we had in Panama to work with a team that shared the Gospel with the Kuna people. We continue to carry our Kuna friends in our hearts and look forward to helping with the production of materials for their churches and annual leadership conferences.
