Daily Scripture

"The king shall have joy in Your strength, O Lord; and in your salvation how greatly shall he rejoice! You have given him his heart's desire, and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah."

Psalm 21:1-2

A BUSY TIME

Rachel lived in the Punan tribe as a child, and is now returning as a translator.

July 19, 2007

by Jackie Fallis

A Christian conference was held last week among the Punan people of Indonesia, and missionary Rachel Searcy has joined her parents, David and Teresa, to work on their Bible translation.

Last week, 250 Punan from eight different villages gathered for three full days of Bible teaching and fellowship. Four men were ordained and recognized as church leaders: Uting, Hidin, Jesson, and Mari.

The conference gave Rachel opportunity to begin comprehension checking for key terms used in Scripture.

"This is one of the earliest stages of the translation process. These key terms are concepts used over and over in Scripture (such as reconcile/reconciliation) that need to be confirmed and checked for clear meaning before any portions of Scripture can be translated," writes Rachel.

The Punan believers already have Genesis 1-20 in their language, but having the rest will help their continued spiritual growth.

Please pray for the four newly ordained men, and their wives, as they serve the church. Please also pray that the comprehension checking will go smoothly.
