SIMBA BIBLE LESSONS FINISHED IN TIME

Jack Russell teaching the Simba people

March 23, 2007

by David Bell

On Tuesday missionary Bill Mann turned in all the Simba New Testament recordings to a radio station in Santa Cruz, Bolivia.

After six months of work, the "Creation to Christ" recorded Bible lessons are now complete. The radio station began broadcasting the Old Testament lessons in January, and was ready for the New Testament lessons.

"We praise the Lord for enabling us to get them finished in time, including a final check on nearly all of the Mark scriptures used in the recordings," wrote Bill's wife, Kathleen.

Now that the Creation to Christ recordings are finished, Bill and fellow missionary Jack Russell will move on to further translation. With no more Bible lessons translated to record, Jack will begin working on lessons from Acts. It will be a long process that also requires a revision of the Simba scripture translations that are the basis of the lessons. Bill is now revising the translation of the Gospels.

While at the radio station, Bill was able to get some solar-powered radios that are fix-tuned to the station that broadcasts the Simba lessons. He gave a radio away the first night to an older couple who is moving to a new Simba community and would like to continue hearing the teaching in their language.

Many Simba believers have recently moved to this new community and the Manns trust that the radio will get a lot of use.

In the village where the Manns have been ministering, Bill continues to teach Bible lessons twice a week and Kathleen teaches the children on Sunday mornings.

A week ago, Julio, the Mann's main translation co-worker, moved with his family to a room attached to the church.

"This is an answer to prayer for several reasons," wrote Kathleen. "Julio and his family needed a new place to live due to problems with their landlord [and] the church needed a caretaker, as the family living there moved south to the new community."

Julio and his family will now be part of the Simba-speaking church instead of the Spanish-speaking church they had been attending. Julio will be begin discipling other Simbas this Sunday.

"It has been encouraging to see the Lord put this together, especially as Julio has recently expressed a desire to be more involved again in ministry to his people," Kathleen wrote.

Please pray that the Simba people will show a keen interest in God's Word and that the ministries of Bill and Kathleen Mann and Jack and Suzie Russell will produce much fruit.

Pray too that Julio will have a godly influence upon the Simba people.
