The very day that missionaries Bruce and Jan Johnson left home to attend a mission's conference, the Horeb Radio station in Bolivia was struck by lightning -- again.
The station has been on the air for five years and now broadcasts Bible teaching to an ever-increasing audience in four language groups.
After the lightning strike, Bruce, the station's radio technician, flew back last week with another technician. They were able to piece the station back together with spare parts and got programming back on the air.
The strike came hard and loud and put a scare into the radio staff. Two computers, a mixer board, a receiver and a voltage regulator were damaged. Most can be fixed but the mixer board suffered the worst.
In January 2006, a new tower was built to replace one that was struck by lightning in December 2005. Last summer the station installed a new, more powerful transmitter.
"We are trying to maintain a 24/7 radio broadcast," wrote Bruce. "We have heard from several that we are the only station on in this area after midnight."
Please pray that the damaged parts can be repaired or replaced so the station can effectively reach its audience.
