"The king shall have joy in Your strength, O Lord; and in your salvation how greatly shall he rejoice! You have given him his heart's desire, and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah."
Last week, a ten-year-old feud between three Tala-Andig families claimed the lives of two men in the village where missionaries Steve and Ros Baird serve.
Tuesday, men from one family attacked one of their enemies. The man escaped, but the subsequent chain of retaliation led to the deaths of two men.
"Quite a number of the Tala-Andig believers are implicated in these killings simply because they are members of the feuding families," Steve wrote last Wednesday. "Some of them slept at our house last night."
They stayed with the Bairds one more night while others took refuge in the church building to keep clear of further retaliation.
"We've heard lots of rumors about what actually happened. It's hard to put the pieces together," wrote Steve. "The only thing that can bring true peace and change the hearts and attitudes of these people is the Gospel."
And God's Word is going out. In this same village, more than 40 people began attending the evangelistic Bible teaching for the first time.
"We have much to praise God for as we see Him working in the hearts of the Tala-Andig people," wrote Steve. "We are so blessed to have faithful Tala Andig co-workers who are reaching out to the surrounding villages."
Currently, 13 new Tala-Andig outreaches have begun. Praise God that He is not deterred from His desire to reconcile all mankind to Himself.
