Don’t you hate it when you have to follow the advice you gave someone else?
Especially when your struggles with it reveal a lack of faith on your part?
Well, not your part. My part.
My friends Kirk and Patti are in a ministry that requires them to drive a lot, and they needed something more fuel-efficient than their van. I encouraged them to pray for something like a Toyota Prius and let their team know about their needs, while trusting that God would meet their needs in the way He knew best.
They did, and God provided.
And now I’m scared about following that advice myself.
I shouldn’t be. I let you know about our need for passports, and you prayed and gave, and God provided through you so Julie and I have nice shiny new passports.
This November I plan to use my new passport to accompany a video crew to Indonesia, where we’ll film a video – the first of several – that will bless many people by showing them opportunities to be part of the work God is doing among tribal people.
This needs to be done with excellence, and not just because that makes the videos more effective. It’s also because God deserves our best.
Part of my responsibility will likely be still photography, and that would require a quality digital SLR camera. I’m tempted to say, “Well, if I buy an older cheaper used digital camera and get by with one ‘slow’ lens and none of that other stuff, I can do this for under $1,000.”
But you know what? The basic system that I feel would fulfill that role will cost $4,000. And if I were to purchase what I think I should, it would come to $10,000.
Now, I know God would not be pleased if I presumptuously expected him to provide $10,000. But I also don’t think it is God-honoring when we decide to take the cheapest route possible so we don’t have to trust Him as much.
God may provide by making it unnecessary for me to have this equipment; He may provide $10,000; He may provide in a completely different way. He may provide through you. Find out more >>
Whatever happens, we know He’ll provide, and we can thank Him for that even now.
So I’d appreciate it if you’d pray for God to make His will known. I need wisdom and discernment to see His direction and to follow it.
Gee, with it all in His hands, I’m not scared anymore.
