It’s Saturday, so I’m (probably) not in my office today. I’m in full-time ministry, and the only way to stay in full-time ministry is to get away from it every so often.
But I’m not really off.
Last Saturday I went to the Northeast Florida Highland Games with the bagpipe band that my wife and oldest daughter play in. I saw a man I did not know who looked awkward, so I greeted him and struck up a conversation. I was thinking maybe he needed Jesus.
Turns out he was a Christian illustrator. Just so happens that New Tribes Mission just sent some work out to an illustrator. But Monday the illustrator backed out. So now we’re talking with this man about doing some illustrations.
That would not have happened had I not been willing to talk with him about Jesus, and then, finding out he was a believer, talked with him about the ministry we’re in, and that he – and you – can be involved in as well.
Today I’m planning to go to my son Evan’s soccer game at noon and my daughter Brynna’s soccer game at 8 p.m. I try to get out to all their events, but it’s a rare treat to get to both their games.
I’ll take a ton of pictures and post the best ones on our photo page here. It’s a way other parents can see their kids in action, and find out more about our ministry if they want to.
But I’ll also chat with a few people, and – because I think we have an amazing God and I think it’s great to be part of what He is doing – I think I’m going to try to talk about Him and our ministry more.
I’m not sure that, as a follower of Jesus Christ, I’m ever really “off.” What about you?
