MAKING GOOD CHOICES

Chad Mankins and Jason Knapp teach the Tobo people

What are you going to do with the opportunities God puts before you this year?

Keteng jumped at one. He heard an illustration at church, and mulled it over until he came to a question: “What does it mean to walk with God?” He took that question to missionary Joey Tartaglia, who spent a half-hour talking with the Mibu man from Papua New Guinea. Joey plans to follow up with teaching from Romans.

Chuy apparently can’t decide. The Northern Tepehuan man from Mexico has heard a clear presentation of the Good News, and says he believes and wants to hear more from God’s Word. But, missionary Matt Arnold wrote, “Chuy continued in his old pattern of life.”

You prayed along as many of Abau people of Papua New Guinea chose to place their faith in Christ. Not far away, a large group of Tobo people decided not to listen to any more evangelistic Bible lessons.

I don’t know about you, but it was more than encouraging to hear that Abau people had placed their faith in Christ. It was exciting to be a part of that, and to help you take part. And it’s exciting to hear about Keteng.

At the same time, I grieve at the choices that Chuy and so many Tobos are making, and it makes me want to pray for them and the missionaries working among them.

But will I?

You and I, like tribal people, have opportunities. And like tribal people, sometimes you and I pass up opportunities. Some are not the right opportunities for us. But more often, I pass up opportunities because I choose to do things that really don’t matter in God’s eternal plan. What about you?

This year, God is going to give you opportunities to minister … to stretch … to grow. You’re already interested in our ministry – that’s why you're reading this. Thank you! So perhaps one way God wants you to stretch and grow is by getting more involved. We’re going to give you some specific ways to take part this year, starting today. Will you purpose now to take part in our ministry as God leads?

Praying: Pray that Julie and I will take advantage of the opportunities God puts before us this year. More opportunities to pray >>

Giving: Julie and I do not receive salaries for our work. We rely on people who give to God through our ministry, as modeled in the New Testament. Individuals provide most of our support, as they do for most missionaries. Find out how you can take part by giving a one-time or recurring gift, online, by check or by mail >>

Encouraging: It can be tough to minister behind the scenes, and it only takes a minute to help us keep fighting the good fight. Take advantage of your opportunity to encourage >>
