TURN THE WORLD UPSIDE DOWN

Abau man and son

Abau man and son

You can be part of something historic.

Next Tuesday, Dec. 19, a missionary is to teach the Abau people of Papua New Guinea the final of the evangelical Bible lessons. It’s the lesson that reviews the death, burial and resurrection of Christ, and puts into context of all the Old Testament passages they’ve heard about.

In short, it’s the opportunity for the Abaus to place their faith in the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world.

Since Sept. 10, missionaries have been teaching five lessons a week, Sunday through Thursday. Most of the people in the village where Kelly and Sien Luyendyk and Frank and Miriam Tertel live have been attending the afternoon sessions, and young men and women have been coming each night to hear the Scriptures read and ask questions.

And now they’re on the last five lessons.

You can take part by praying.

  • Pray that nothing disrupts or interrupts these final important lessons.
  • Pray that the final lessons, and especially the Gospel message, will be very clear to the Abaus. Pray that they see the choice they are being offered, and choose Jesus.
  • Pray that the Abaus have clear testimonies that they are placing their faith in Christ and Christ alone, so the missionaries can move ahead with discipleship. But pray also that the time missionaries spend with the people after the lessons reveal any misunderstandings so they can be addressed.

You can even time your prayers to match up with the teaching and Scripture reading times. Papua New Guinea is about 12 hours ahead of the USA East Coast, 13 hours ahead of the Midwest, 14 hours ahead of the Mountain region and 15 hours ahead of the West Coast.

So if you’re on the East Coast, you could pray for the lessons during an early morning prayer time, and pray for the Scripture reading mid-morning.

If you’re on the West Coast, you could pray for the teaching each evening before you go to bed, and for the Scripture reading early in the morning.

In fact, I suggest you do exactly that. I suggest you take advantage of the opportunity to be a co-worker with the missionaries in the tribe and with God, as together we expand the reach of the Gospel.

And remember that you’re our co-workers as well. You’re helping to make it possible for us to give thousands of people opportunities to take part in the amazing things God is doing around the world.

And please take advantage of your opportunities to participate in our ministry. We rely on your prayers, your giving and your encouragement, because that’s the way God designed it to work. He desires for us to be in this together.
