Sana, a young Landuma boy in Guinea, was able to overcome a grave illness with the aid of missionaries.
Sana has epilepsy and in the Landuma culture it is believed those with the disease may be "a spawn of a demon."
Because he was rejected by many of the villagers he suffered from severe malnutrition and was near death.
A missionary concerned with his plight took him home and nursed him back to health. He was given medication, plenty of food and physical therapy to help him walk again. In one month he gained 20 pounds and is much more alert.
He was then returned to his family who has had a change of heart and is caring for him in spite of his medical problem. He continues to recover from his malnutrition and bedsores as they tend carefully to his wounds and make sure he has adequate nutrition.
Pray that the love shown to him by missionaries will impact the villagers and help them to overcome their fear of cultural taboos that prevent them from caring for the sick and wounded. Pray also for Sana's family as they care for him in spite of cultural beliefs. |
