HEART ATTACK AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHOW FAITH

December 3, 2007

by Dena McMaster

When Joshua, a Tagbanwa believer in the Philippines, suffered a heart attack, his trust in Jesus was evident to those around him.

Missionaries Ray and Chris Pollock saw the extreme pain that Joshua was in but the mission plane was unavailable and the road was impassable even for motorbikes. So they arranged transport to a nearby hospital by boat and van.

"Thankfully the ocean was calm then," wrote Ray.

Joshua spent a few days in the hospital and was given medicine and told to come home and rest for a month. He and his wife have put their trust in Christ and he used the opportunity provided by his illness to let others know of his salvation.

When Joshua returned home to the tribe he said he thought he was going to die but he was not afraid because he knew he was going to be with Jesus. Normally, Tagbanwas would call on a witchdoctor who would invoke the spirits to heal. So Joshua's declaration was a testimony to those around him.

Pray that Joshua will be kept well and that this experience will encourage him in his spiritual walk. Pray for Ray and Chris as they minister to the Tagbanwa people.
