The death of Jun, a Tagbanwa believer in the Philippines, lead to his mother, Minda, demonstrating her faith in God.
"Minda is strong in her faith and she asked Ray to read from the Bible at the grave site," wrote missionaries Ray and Chris Pollock. None of the old rituals were seen.
Minda asked Ray if they should pray for Jun after his death, an old custom.
The Pollocks wrote, "It was really great to even get the question, as this shows a change of heart belief."
The missionaries explained that praying for a departed person wasn't necessary, because Jun was in Heaven, and Minda was happy with this.
As the new Christians come to grips with their faith, they are stopping the practices that have held them in bondage for many years. "In the past when the people knew that somebody would die, they would build them a separate house and then would burn it after the person passed away," wrote missionaries Danny and Philippa Brooks. "This family has not built such a house. They know they have no need of it as Jun [went] to be with the Lord… ."
Please pray for Minda as she deals with the loss of Jun. Pray also that these believers continue to grow and cast off the chains that used to hold them in darkness.
