Our Vision We are convinced of the importance of our ministry here at the Missionary Training Center even though it doesn’t take place on the front lines in a tribe. As part of His body we can help “to prepare God’s people for works of service” (Eph.4:12). The training program is doing exactly that: preparing future missionaries for their ministry. We want the missionaries to be able to communicate God’s glorious and soul saving and life changing gospel clearly and understandably. Misunderstandings can lead to the people trusting in the wrong things for their salvation and to syncretism (when the people mix the Christian teaching with their old religion, just adding another “god” to their long list of things they already worship). The missionary candidates learn from the experiences (and mistakes) of the missionaries that have gone before them.
When we were in Papua New Guinea to help different missionaries in their process of developing an alphabet, we saw first hand again how good and helpful the training can be for the missionaries.
It was quite compelling for us to see how ugly syncretism can look and we were reminded of the importance of good and clear communication.
