God desires that all people of the world, "every people, tongue, tribe and nation", have a relationship with Him whereby He would call them sons. So, New Tribes Mission is working to provide indigenous people with the opportunity to have that relationship with Him. The team of New Tribes Mission missionaries work together to accomplish this because one man can't do it all well. Some teach, some translate, some fly, some fix, some administrate, some count, some build, some are surrogate parents, some train, some consult, etc, ... ..., but the work continues and results are accomplished. Dave's official title is "Aviation Maintenance Specialist" with New Tribes Mission Aviation. What that means is that he repairs and maintains the aircraft that provide the transportation link to the missionaries working directly with the indigenous peoples. In Venezuela, we took one of the 4 years to be dorm parents while the regular dorm parents went home for furlough. If we hadn't, some students would have had to be educated by their parents, in the tribe, costing some tribal people the possibility of becoming believers or being discipled as some missionaries might not have been able to continue their ministries in the tribe. In Papua New Guinea, Dave will be heading up the team for center maintenance at the supply center for the Highlands Region. In this way, others won't have to leave their current ministries to fill this one. This is a 2 year assignment after which Dave will be moved to the aviation department as an aviation maintenance engineer. The Hanna's view this as an opportunity to assist the team in the overall work of reaching the over 800 indigenous groups in Papua New Guinea. |
