SIAWIS LEARNING AND TEACHING

August 23, 2004

"We don't go to our gardens quietly anymore," said Yanep, the village leader.

"The whole time we are walking, we are talking to our kids and teaching them about the Bible."

Missionaries Tom and Danielle Brendle, who minister among the Siawis, wrote, "We are seeing the people being grounded in the Word and we are excited, and they are excited as well."

Tom and his co-worker, Jason Swanson, began evangelistic Bible teaching in March. As the teaching has progressed so has the Siawis hunger for more.

Last week Yaniwi came to the Brendle's home wanting to share some of the things he had been learning. He said, "Tom, I have so many questions, but I am going to wait to ask them because I know you will answer my questions when you teach."

A man from the neighboring Amto tribe, Joseph, asked missionary Linda Krieg for a copy of the book of Luke in the Siawi language. Some of the Amto men speak fluent Siawi.

Linda said, "Joseph, I already gave you four copies for all the Anu men who are attending the teaching. Why do you need another copy?"

Joseph told Linda that he goes home to the village on the weekends and shares the Bible lessons with another man, Saesimou, who is an invalid and unable to leave his home.

Another man, Konasi, asked Jason for a copy of Luke. When asked why he wanted a copy since he doesn't come to the meetings, Konasi replied that his wife, Abo, comes home from the teaching and tells him about the lesson.

Without any prodding from the missionaries, the people are sharing the lessons with others.

Pray that a hunger for God's Word will continue to spread among the Siawis and their neighboring tribes, and that many will come to a true knowledge of Christ.
