LESSONS FROM THE PROPHETS

Dinangat men are sharing their responses to God`s Message.

April 1, 2008

by David Bell

Last week the Dinangat people heard about God speaking to the Israelites through the prophets, and sending Jonah to tell another people group about the true God.

After hearing the lesson about Jonah, Musave recapped the teaching with much insight. "As Jonah was trapped in the belly of the whale so we are trapped by sin. We can't get out of it. And just as only God saved Jonah, only He can save us from our sin," he said.

Then Basa stood and said, "Years ago the government gave me the job of being the police man for our area, but like Jonah I ran away to a far away village. While I was there I fell into the river and it carried me a long way down and I almost drowned, but now I see that my story is like Jonah's.

"God was showing me His power. And now we all have heard these stories from the Bible, and we see everyday what He alone created. He has shown us His power!

"Therefore we should not praise anything or anyone else! We should only give our praise to God because he is all-powerful and sovereign."

Then Felix got up and said, "Do you all see what the Israelites did when they worshiped idols? They even sacrificed their children to false gods. You all know that we all do something similar.

"When we believe that the false god makwa damaan gives us the game when we hunt we are believing a false god and we are giving our children over to him. Rather we should leave this thinking so that we do not give our children over to false thinking. Instead we should only put our thinking towards the one true God."

The Dinangats are now convinced that only God can save them, but they wonder how He will do it. At the end of last week's teaching the missionaries gave the people more than 20 prophesies about the coming Redeemer. The people now eagerly await the story of that Redeemer.

Christ will be introduced in lessons this week. Please pray that the people will be totally focused on the message, and that the Holy Spirit will work in their hearts to bring them to faith in Christ.
