Nacho listening to teaching from the Book of Romans

March 29, 2007

by David Bell

Nacho, the son of a witchdoctor, has been praying that his parents would listen to the message the missionaries brought to the Western Tarahumaras of Mexico. Today his parents, Valentín and Cuca, are hearing evangelistic Bible lessons and appear to be responding.

Valentín did not welcome the missionaries when they first rode their motorcycles past his house in Mexico 12 years ago. Instead, the village witchdoctor ran at Tim Roberts and Ted Wingo with raised arms, projecting one of the Western Tarahumara's most powerful curses their direction.

In the years since that day, God has been demonstrating His power over the darkness.

Nacho became friends with the missionaries and placed his faith in Christ after hearing evangelistic Bible teaching. Tim meets with him several times a week, and is currently studying the book of Romans with him. Nacho has also helped Ted check the Western Tarahumara translation of I Corinthians.

Though Nacho has been constantly attacked by his own people, he continues to stand strong, sharing some and occasionally reviewing the teaching for the Sunday believers' meetings.

Hearing Nacho pray for his father and mother, Valentín and Cuca, is especially moving to missionaries Tim and Ted.

Please pray for Nacho to remain strong in his faith, and join him in praying for the salvation of his parents.
