VISITING REMOTE ISLANDS

Traveling by boat

January 19, 2007

by Ian Fallis

Missionaries plan to soon visit two Philippine islands where no churches have been planted, to determine whether NTM missionaries should begin to work there.

Missionary Erik Peterson recently arrived in the Philippines and is seeking God's will for ministry for he and his wife, Dana. He will undertake the journey with three other men.

First they'll go to another of the larger islands and travel by motorcycle to a coastal location near the islands they plan to visit.

"Along the way, they will visit two works that are already established," Dana wrote. "One is fairly new -- the missionaries are still getting language and culture; and in the other work, the missionaries are just about to begin … sharing the Gospel."

Then they will take a boat to the other two islands. They'll try to determine whether there is a need to plant a church there, and whether the people would like missionaries to come and work among them. The entire trip is expected to take a week.

"Please pray for the Lord's guidance, leading, and of course safety," Dana wrote. Pray also for Dana as she takes care of their two girls, ages 4 and 1.
