HEWA MEN PURSUE GOD'S WORD

Eyaka

July 29, 2005

"We Hewas are always chasing after two things," said Eyaka as he sat in missionary Jonathan Kopf's office last week. "We are always chasing after women and after money."

"We are focused on these things like a dog that has discovered an animal inside a hollow tree. The dog runs around and around the tree barking excitedly. That's how we are with our pursuit of women and money.

"We circle the tree barking and barking, but we are never satisfied. If we get the animal it only makes us happy for a short period of time, and then we are not happy again.

"We need to understand that the only thing that will satisfy us for a long time is God's Word. If we would get excited about His Word and chase it like a dog chases game, we would be satisfied with a kind of satisfaction that would not end."

Eyaka and two other young men have taken it upon themselves to follow up the Bible teaching. He, Buka and Yanis visit different households each evening to repeat the lesson that was taught that morning. They want to make sure everyone understands the message. So far, everyone seems absorbed in the Bible lessons.

"Please continue to pray," Jonathan wrote, "that Eyaka and our other Hewa friends would have excitement and zeal not only for the message of the Bible, but also for a deep and lasting relationship with the God of the Bible."

Jonathan and his co-worker, Keith Copley, are just finishing their sixth week of evangelistic Bible teaching.
