I couldn't make up my mind on this one. Should I say that I'm "in rehab" or "I've got rocks in my head?" As you may have heard, I've had a problem with dizziness and vertigo since February 9. Yesterday I saw two specialist. The first was a Neurologists who did a series of tests and determined that my problem was most likely "Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo." With this condition, the dizziness and vertigo are thought to be caused by "ear rocks" in the inner ear. When you stop moving - the fluid in your ear that senses motion is suppose to stop moving. Because of the "rocks" the liquid keeps moving and gives you the sensation of moving after you have stopped. The Neurologist referred me to a "rehabilitation" facility for physical therapy to have a procedure done called the "Epley maneuver." That procedure is suppose to reposition the particles and make the dizziness and vertigo go away. I was able to get in to physical therapy the same day and have the procedure done after a long series of further tests and questions. The Epley maneuver is successful 80% of the time - but sometimes has to be repeated 2 or 3 times. I also have a week of follow-up precautions to avoid having Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) return. I'm feeling better today - but seem to still have some dizziness. My post-maneuver restrictions prevent me from doing anything that would really test the success - so I will just have to wait a few more days to know if the maneuver needs to be repeated. Thank you so much to all of you who are praying. It appears that the cause of my dizziness and vertigo is something simple as we prayed it would be - but don't stop praying now. |
