DAD HIT FROM BEHIND

A red shouldered hawk

A red shouldered hawk

November 7, 2007

by Jack Abbott

I thought I would tell you about my experience this morning on my walk. I was over by the Latham Center on the road when a red shouldered hawk hit me from behind and carried off my hat.

I hadn't seen it, but it was probably on top of that light post by the road that goes to the shops. I felt the hit and a light scrape of one talon and then saw the bird with my hat flying off to the play equipment.

After chapel I rode over on my bike with a short stick and climbed up and got the hat back. It was a little wrinkled in the back and had a very small mark from the talon.

I have had black birds fly at me when they have a nest nearby but never had a hawk come down on me. Maybe from now on I should carry a stick.

David's parents moved to the NTM Homes in Sanford, Florida in June, 2007.

Jack proofreads translation materials when needed and assists David in reviewing online content.  He also enjoys his hobby of woodworking.

Esther teaches 1-3 grade math daily at Lake Monroe Christian Academy - a school for missionary children at NTM USA Headquarters.
