Thank you for all your prayers for Savannah last week. The "eight-plate" procedure she had on both legs went very well.
Before Savannah was two years old she was diagnosed with Metaphyseal Chondrodysplasia, Schmid Type. It is characterized by slight to moderate height, bowing of the arms and legs and a waddling gate.
The surgery involved screwing a metal plate across the growth plate on the outside of the bone below the knee on each leg. The goal is to allow growth on only one side of the growth plate - straightening the bone as Savannah grows.
Straightening the bone is expected to take at least a year and will likely need to be repeated during Savannah's growing years.
Savannah will need to have a similar procedure to her ankles and eventually need her hips straightened as well.
Over the weekend Savannah's pain decreased significantly and she is already standing for short periods of time and taking a few steps.
Praise the Lord with us for protecting Savannah through the procedure and enabling her to make such good progress toward recovery.
