The Spors have worked in Colombia but had to go to Brazil for security reasons. Now they can go back.
Twelve years ago, missionaries Barry and Denise Spor and their church planting team had to leave Colombia and the Guanano tribe they had worked with for 13 years. For 12 long years, they asked our Father to make a way for them to return to that area of Colombia. And for 12 long years, our Father said, "No."
In the meantime, the Spors have lived in Brazil and are church planting with the Guanano people there. The small Guanano tribe can be found in various locations in Colombia and Brazil.
Barry and Denise and their partners have taught the Bible, discipled believers and translated Old Testament Scripture while in Brazil. All the while, they have asked the Lord to open doors for them to return to the small Guanano church in Colombia.
Not long ago, the Spors and their partners received great news. Because of restored stability in that region of Colombia, they are allowed to return but with a few restrictions as to location.
For the time being they will not be able to return to the village where they saw the first Guanano trust Christ. In His own timing, our Father has opened one door and they are trusting Him to soon open other doors to be able to return back to the village.
Barry, Denise and their teammates are now praying for wisdom. How do they juggle church planting with the Guanano people in both Brazil and Colombia? How will they travel back and forth? How much time should they spend in Colombia per year? How can they best minister in Colombia now? Twelve years is a long time.
Will you pray for Barry and Denise Spor and Lindy and Carol Drake and all the decisions and details ahead of them? Will you also pray for the Guanano people in both churches in Colombia and Brazil and for the continuing work of translating Old Testament portions effectively into their language?
