DINANGATS STUNNED BY BIBLE TRUTHS

The missionaries acted out Satan`s rebellion against God.

February 11, 2008

by David Bell

Bible teaching among the Dinangats in Papua New Guinea was met with stunned silence last week.

Quietness fell over the crowd when they heard "the penalty for sin is death."

After the meeting, "They all slowly shuffled their way back to their houses," wrote missionary Gary Smith.

Gary had the opportunity to speak to one of the men who said, "I think we are like that broken off branch. We always sin, so we must be separated from God. This is heavy talk."

More unbelievable silence occurred at a later lesson. After the people heard the story of Lucifer's rebellion against God, Gary asked them, "Whose power is greater, God's or Satan's?"

For the Dinangats, who live in fear of the spirits and constantly seek to appease them, this was difficult to answer.

The missionaries reviewed the creative order and emphasized once again the supremacy of God, clearly showing how God is greater than Satan. Then they asked, "Are Satan and God equal?"

Many Dinangat voices were raised to declare, "No! God is the only almighty One!"

After the meeting Gary met with a few men who still needed convincing.

"This talk is new to us," said Itiringke. "We need to think about it for a while before we can say anything."

The people are listening to tapes of the lessons several times a day and review the summary sheets that are given out after each lesson.

"Before if you would have given me this summary sheet to read I would have just thrown it away because I couldn't read," said Tom. "But you all came here and taught me how to read and I sit in my house and read these summaries you are giving us and I'm just so happy."

Please pray that God's Word will be renewing the minds of the Dinangat people so they will believe God's Truth and come to know His way of salvation.
