GOOD NEWS FROM DOWNRIVER

NEWS

An Indonesian tribal man

May 23, 2007

by Dena McMaster

Believers from several different tribal groups shared good news with missionary Rachel Searcy.

Rachel and her dad, missionary David Searcy, spent three days at an inter-tribal Bible study. She was delighted to see these believers from seven different churches and four tribal groups rejoicing in the Lord together. Formerly these groups lived in fear of one another and often engaged in violence.

The growth and maturity of the church elders became evident as they dealt with various problems. The Teman believers dealt with opposition from a religious organization with grace and maturity.

A newly established church in another village, though struggling, shows evidence of a desire to grow in the Lord and a missionary couple has just moved into the area to begin learning the Da'an language. David and Rachel helped them to settle in.

The believers were glad to share with Rachel and David what God is doing in their lives and to be of service to the missionaries in any way they could. The ladies cheerfully cooked meals and helped clean a house for Rachel and David to stay in during their visit. As the house had been uninhabited for six years it was quite a chore. The men fixed the water system and put up a radio antenna.

Rachel was thankful for many things, among them safety. "The Lord gave Dad and I safe travel by cycle over the deteriorating rocky track to and from … I think next time I'll walk; it will save me a few grey hairs," wrote Rachel. And she was thankful for a mattress to sleep on three nights out of six. "God is also the author of small miracles."

Pray for Rachel and her father as they minister among tribal people in Indonesia. Praise God for the believers from several tribal groups who enjoy fellowship together rather than fighting with one another.
