On Friday eight new families completed two weeks of orientation at NTM's Aviation facility in McNeal, Arizona. After years of aviation, Bible and missions training, the men will begin advanced pilot and mechanic studies this week.
Joel and Kim Powell have already spent a year working with NTM Aviation as associate missionaries in Bolivia. Joel, whose parents were missionaries in Paraguay, obtained his pilot training through private lessons before getting his airframe and powerplant training at the School of Mission Aviation Technology in Michigan. Kim has studied to be a medical secretary at Pensacola Christian College in Florida.
Carlos and Ingrid Chala met in Ecuador where Ingrid served as a missionary nurse. Carlos, a mechanic specialist, is Ecuadorian. His wife is German, but grew up in Argentina where her parents served as missionaries. Carlos and Ingrid ministered as church planters in Ecuador for four years before taking missionary training with NTM.
Both Preston and Kim Huntting grew up in homes where missionary aviation was a part of life. Their fathers were pilots and mechanics with NTM Aviation in Indonesia and Colombia. Preston and Kim look forward to how the Lord will use them in aviation and how God will make use of her skills as a registered nurse.
Jason and Jonie Mellinger met in Alaska where Jason was working and Jonie was studying to be a registered nurse. They desire to serve in Papua New Guinea.
Mark Mowery's interest in mission aviation was sparked when he began helping a missionary pilot in Fairbanks, Alaska. He met his wife, Rose, at Moody Bible Institute and they now await God's leading to the place where they will serve Him.
Joel and Janelle Rich also have missionary roots. Joel's parents were missionaries in Brazil and Janelle's were in Colombia. They met at College of the Ozarks where he studied aviation and she studied elementary education. They look forward to continuing their family heritage wherever God leads.
Nathan and LaNada Tag met while working in China. Nathan studied aviation at Moody Bible Institute, and LaNada has a degree in biology and chemistry from Tennessee Tech and a masters in education from Lee University. They desire to use their training as part of the team to reach isolated people groups.
Another couple that trained at Moody Bible Institute is Dan and Laura Swanson. Dan, an MK from Argentina, and Laura, from a suburb of Chicago, met at their home church as 14-year-olds.
Pray that each member of this group "will be serving God each day in the here and now, rather than seeing service as something farther down the road in a foreign country," wrote Dan Bohling. Pray too for God's direction regarding future ministry.
