Flight orientation began for missionary pilot Charlie Patton last month after he was issued his Papua New Guinea pilot's license.
As a link between missionaries and life outside their tribal location, Charlie must now learn all he can about the different airstrips that are becoming a part of his life.
For the next couple of months he will be accompanied by another pilot as he flies various routes, at varying altitudes, several times and practices multiple takeoffs and landings on the airstrips.
"It is important that I gain proficiency at landing on these one-way, sloped airstrips under different wind conditions," Charlie wrote.
While learning all he can about flying in Papua New Guinea, Charlie and his wife, Ruth, are also learning more about the culture and language of their new home. The Pattons formerly ministered in Mexico and Colombia.
Please pray for safety and steady progress as Charlie flies and learns all the details necessary for serving his fellow missionaries. And pray that they will be quick observers and hearers of the culture and language that now surrounds them.
