Herman relied on good works for his standing before God. Ten years ago, he understood that salvation was by grace alone and he received Christ with joy.
Even though Herman was unwilling to obey God in his lifestyle, God gave him a change of heart. Now Herman is serious about the Lord.
"I have given my body to God and I have begun to learn things from Him in a serious way," Herman said.
Herman and his brother, Mario, are helping missionary Barry Spor prepare Bible lessons for outreach and discipleship among the Guanano people. The brothers showed special empathy toward the Gentile believers in Ephesus as they worked on lessons from Ephesians. Herman and Mario belong to the lowest-ranking clan in the Guanano tribe.
"Perhaps the tension that existed between the Jews and non-Jews in first century Christianity will provoke a greater sense of identification and reaction from Guananos than from 21st century American believers," wrote Barry's co-worker Lindy Drake. "Please pray that the message of Ephesians might be particularly powerful in Guanano!"
In an outreach meeting last week, Mario shared a clear testimony of faith in Christ. He said the Holy Spirit is helping him give up drinking and clubbing with the young people in the city.
"When he prods me, I hear His voice and I have begun to obey," Mario said.
Pray for Herman and Mario to grow in obedience and love for God. Pray that Herman's wife, Lucretia, will be saved.
