Bad weather couldn't hold back the check of the Palawano translation of the book of Acts.
Translation consultant Ginny Sharp joined Bill and Donna Davis and Tim and Monica Sharp among the Palawano people to check Acts with them last week. Ginny and her husband Dwight stayed with their son Tim and his family while the check took place.
Tim and Monica's house was on the other side of a swollen river from where Bill and Donna live, and where the translation check happened. Nili, their Palawano co-worker, also lived on the Sharps' side of the river.
"Some days they could not cross," wrote Bill and Donna. "Other times, we had to wait for the river to go down and we could only work a half day …. So with the flooding, there were exciting moments shuttling them across in a small dugout canoe, which had the interesting 'design feature' of sitting low in the water and filling up as you paddled."
"The check produced good results. It did confirm that most of the book communicated well. But it also turned up a number of passages and words that did not communicate clearly, especially to the younger generation. So we're thankful for discovering those issues so we can fix them," wrote Bill and Donna.
Praise God that the translation check was completed. Pray that the corrections are made accurately and quickly.
