Sitting outside our gate watching Andrew play with some neighbor kids, a new neighbor walked by. “Bera’sal Dari Mana, Ibu?” This common question from this new neighbor brought with it an incredible open door.
After some short dialogue, she invited us to her house to speak with her husband. We soon discovered her husband is Senior Pastor of five different churches located in a mountainside community outside of town, one of which we discovered has an AWANA Program. His son is leading a small group Bible Study with college age students and he wants us and our coworkers to speak to his friends about missions. One of our goals in ministry here is to educate and encourage Indonesian Nationals to see the needs within their own country and the world. Indonesia is a huge country with many ethnic groups united by one common language, Bahasa Indonesia. Still there remain isolated groups of people who do not yet speak Bahasa Indonesia and they have no access to the Gospel or even the most basic education. Pray for these young people as we try to encourage them to take the responsibility of reaching these groups that live in their own country. How much more efficient to send Indonesian Nationals, who already know the Indonesian Culture and Language and have no need of VISAs, Government paperwork or expensive flights across the world. Please also be praying for those Indonesian nationals who are already serving or are in missionary training here to do that very thing, reach the lost in their own country. They are not always blessed with the abundance of resources like their Western co-workers and it is difficult for them to raise adequate support.
Thank the Lord with us for this opportunity to encourage these students, but also, for the door the Lord has opened for us to possibly get involved in this church with youth and young adults. Likewise, pray for the development of our relationship with this Indonesian family. They should be a valuable culture and language resource for us and we’re excited to see what the Lord has for us.
