Out for our daily walk thru the neighborhood looking for opportunities to meet people and talk, we had just rounded the corner into a new addition when Andrew fell. While comforting Andrew, I failed to see a young Indonesian approach. A cascade of words follwed... this lady obviously concerned for Andrew's well-being and ultimately ended with an invite to come into her house and see her monkey.
Even though these interactions are just what we hope for, I still find myself timid, "Now what...?" Yet within minutes, with the formal greetings out of the way and the insistance of "Silahkan masuk - please come in," I felt at ease.
Come to find out, Monique is a sweet lady with very clear Indonesian and is very skilled in finding new ways to say the same thing when I don't understand the first attempt. Very refreshing for a new language student, for sure!
Andrew and I now purposely find our way by Monique's home and each time, we learn new vocabulary and new facts about her life and family. Could this be the start of a special friendship or a divine appointment for Monique to learn about the True God? Both, I pray...
