MOVING ON

Penny`s co-translator Mamadu with family and friends.

December 4, 2008

by Dena McMaster

Missionaries Aaron and Lindsay Hefner are preparing to leave a Jalunga village in Senegal where they minister.

They are returning to the USA for a year of home assignment, but are trying to help the people understand that they will not be returning to that village.

Aaron taught the entire evangelistic Bible series to the Jalungas and at the end the elders and most of the village firmly rejected the Gospel message. Aaron continues to talk individually with the people and to answer questions about the Gospel, but still the response is mostly negative.

After home assignment, Aaron and Lindsay are seeking God's will concerning their ministry. Their desire is to go to another Jalunga village.

A tiny light continues to flicker among the Jalungas. One of the men, Juma, has expressed a desire to become a Christian. He is reading the translated Scriptures and Bible lessons and comes to talk to Aaron frequently.

Missionary Penny Warner has ministered to the Jalunga people for 25 years and has translated much of the Scriptures into the Jalunga language. She will remain in the village and continue working on completing the translation. The book of Acts is finished and ready for checking.

Penny and her Jalunga translation co-worker, Mammadu, recently traveled to a workshop on translation of the Epistles in the capital city. He heard God's Word discussed at the workshop and Masalu, a Landuma believer from Guinea, shared the Gospel with him in the Susu language which they both speak.

Pray that the Jalunga people will understand their need of a Savior. Pray also for Juma as he continues to consider the Gospel message.
