ANOTHER LESSON LEARNED

NEWS

Juana (right) and her mother.

July 18, 2008

by David Bell

Slowly, but surely, God is building His church among the Western Tarahumara people in Mexico. In the past three months, five of them have put their faith in Jesus.

"As well as seeing more people put their faith in Christ, we've also seen some growth in the believers," wrote missionary Ted Wingo.

Juana, one of the first believers, has sought to obey the Lord even to the point of turning down marriage proposals from several unbelievers. But after being pressured by her parents and friends she recently participated in an annual "religious" ceremony that involved drunkenness.

Juana didn't partake to the point of drunkenness, but later confessed to Sharon Wingo that "what she had done was wrong." The two women "had a really special time of fellowship, and Sharon suggested she share with the other believers on Sunday how God was teaching her," Ted wrote.

After Juana shared her story with the believers, Sharon asked her if she'd been scared.

"Not so much scared, just embarrassed to talk in front of the others," Juana said. "But if nobody talks, how will the others receive encouragement."

Please pray for Juana's continued spiritual growth and that the other Tarahumara believers will be encouraged with the work God is doing in their lives.
