Daily Scripture

"The king shall have joy in Your strength, O Lord; and in your salvation how greatly shall he rejoice! You have given him his heart's desire, and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah."

Psalm 21:1-2

A TRAGIC AMBUSH

October 20, 2006

by Donna Gibson

Last week, a Filipino school teacher was walking to the village where she teaches when she, her husband, and two others were ambushed, robbed and killed.

The tragedy is causing ripples so wide-spread that all the schools in the area have been closed indefinitely.

All the local teachers in about a 30 km (20 mile) radius have gone on strike until justice is met for the death of their fellow-teacher.

"A couple thousand children have been suddenly left without any teachers," wrote missionary Paul Howells, serving with his wife, Debbie, among the Tala-Andig people.

The situation especially concerns the children where God's Word is being taught. "Some of them who were to hear about Jesus' death for them this very week are left wondering when they will be able to hear the way of salvation," Paul wrote.

Pray for wisdom as the government officials work toward a swift solution. Pray too that the Tala-Andig believers will boldly seek opportunities to encourage their shaken community.
