Bolivia is the Tibet of the Americas -- the highest and most isolated of Latin American republics. This landlocked Andean state is just over one million sq. km. High plateaus in the southwest and tropical lowlands in the north and east make this a land of contrast. Of the 8,328,000 Bolivian people, over sixty percent are from one of the 37 ethnic groups in this country. The largest number of these people are located in the highlands.
